Formulation of astaxanthin derivatives and use thereof II Abstract The present invention relates to solid formulations of astaxanthin derivatives in the form of a solid suspension or a solid solution of the astaxanthin derivative in a diluent suitable for foods which has a melting point of at least 40°C, preferably at least 50°C, in particular at least 55°C, and which is selected from food-suitable fatty acids, esters of fatty acids, fatty alcohols and waxes having a melting point of at least 40°C, preferably at least 50°C, in particular at least 55°C, and mixtures thereof, wherein the astaxanthin derivative comprises at least 70% by weight, preferably at least 80% by weight, in particular at least 90% by weight, and especially at least 96% by weight, of at least one compound of the formula I. The astaxanthin derivatives are compounds of the following formula I where # means the link to the carbonyl group, A is -CH2CH2- or -CH=CH- and Rx is CrC4 alkyl and also to astaxanthin derivatives which comprise at least 70% by weight of the compounds of the formula I. i
