Provided are a low cost fishhook which enables a bait to be attached to the fishhook until the bait reaches the shank end-side tip of the fishhook, and a method for manufacturing the fishhook. The upper part of the shank (2) of a fishhook (1) is hit to form a flat surface (3) , and two holes (4) penetrating through the flat surface (3) are formed at locations separated from each other in the top-bottom direction. A part of the shank (2) is cut transversely across the upper hole (4a) of the two holes, and as a result, the hole (4b) and two upward protrusions (7) are formed at the upper part of the shank (2) , the hole (4b) enabling a fish line (5) to be passed therethrough and fastened thereto, the two protrusions enabling a bait to be engaged therewith and being capable of preventing the fastened fish line from being displaced from the upper part of the shank. The entire fishhook (1) or a part thereof including the edge of the hole (4b) and the end of the cut shank (2) is immersed in a chemical solution to remove a burr.
