A pharmaceutical composition comprising: i) a trans bipolar carotenoid salt having the structure: YZ-TCRO-ZY where Y>； = a cation that can be the same or different, Z>； = a polar group that can be the same or different and which is associated with the cation, and TCRO>； = a linear trans carotenoid skeleton with conjugated carbon-carbon double bonds and single bonds and having pendant groups X, where pendant groups X, which may be the same or different, are ( 1) a linear or branched hydrocarbon group having 10 carbon atoms or less, or (2) a halogen, ii) a cyclodextrin, and iii) an enteric coating.Una composición farmacéutica que comprende: i) una sal de carotenoide trans bipolar que tiene la estructura: YZ-TCRO-ZY donde Y >；= un catión que puede ser igual o diferente, Z >；= un grupo polar que puede ser igual o diferente y que está asociado con el catión, y TCRO >；= un esqueleto de carotenoide trans lineal con dobles enlaces y enlaces sencillos carbono-carbono conjugados y que tiene grupos colgantes X, en donde los grupos colgantes X, que pueden ser iguales o diferentes, son (1) un grupo hidrocarbonado lineal o ramificado que tiene 10 átomos de carbono o menos, o (2) un halógeno, ii) una ciclodextrina, y iii) un revestimiento entérico.
