A battery-powered, modular surgical device, comprising: an electricallypowered surgicalinstrument interfacing with tissue during surgery and requiring a pre-determined minimum amountof electrical energy to power completely through a surgical procedure； and apower module having:a modular battery supplying power for the instrument and having a currentstate of electricalcharge； and a control circuit coupled to the battery and to the instrument andcomprising a memoryand a microprocessor. The memory stores data regarding the pre-determinedminimum amount ofenergy. The microprocessor programmed to: monitor the current state ofelectrical charge of thebattery； compare the current state of electrical charge of the battery to thepre-determined minimumamount of energy； permit the battery to discharge if the current state ofelectrical charge is abovethe pre-determined minimum and maintain the battery in a non-discharge stateif the current stateof electrical charge is below the pre-determined minimum.
