The insulated irrigated ablation electrode assembly (10) of the present invention includes a proximal member (18), a distal member (20) and an intermediate thermally insulating member (22). The proximal member (18) includes a body portion (24) defined by an outer surface (26), an inner cavity (28) defined within the outer body portion, and at least one passageway that extends from the inner cavity (28) to the outer surface (26) of the body portion (24). The distal member (20) of the electrode assembly (10) includes a distal end.
