The present invention relates to film coating compositions for use in oral dosage forms such as compressed tablets and other orally ingestible substrates containing water soluble polymers and guar gum. The film coating composition can be applied directly to the substrate or after the substrate is coated with a subcoat. In a preferred embodiment, the water-soluble polymer is a cellulosic polymer or a vinyl polymer. Aqueous suspensions and coated tablets themselves containing the film coating composition of the present invention are also disclosed. The resulting coated substrate has a relatively low coefficient of static and dynamic friction on wet surfaces, making them easier to swallow than prior art compositions.
