A storage-stable aqueous concentrate for the preparation of a disinfectant anda disinfectant obtainable from such aconcentrate by dilution are disclosed. The concentrate comprises hydrogenperoxide, colloidal silver, a biopolymeric stabilizersuch as gum arabic, and phosphoric acid. In order to improve long-termstability and to reduce initial decomposition of thehydro-gen peroxide in the first few days after preparing the concentrate, theconcentrate further comprises sodium nitrate or sodiumsulfate. The concentrate is free of any synthetic organic complexing agents,thus rendering the concentrate suitable for food- anddrinking water applications. Also disclosed are methods of preparing and usingthe concentrate.
