Methods have been developed to incorporate peroxide compounds into or onto wound matrices, such as vampirides or dressings, and other matrices that favorably affect wound healing and help eliminate microbial infections. The peracid compound includes a base compound metabolically suitable for wound healing, an oxidized form of the base compound (peracid) and a suitable oxidizing agent such as hydrogen peroxide. Other excipients having a wound healing potential, such as esters of the base compound, may also be added to the peracid compound.
