PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a water-absorbing resin which is reduced in odor in water absorption, and has little micropowder and coarse powder and to provide a water-absorbing resin and a water-absorbing body obtained by the same.SOLUTION: The method for producing a water-absorbing resin by reversed-phase-suspension polymerizing a water-soluble ethylenically unsaturated monomer includes the steps of: (1) carrying out a first-stage reversed phase suspension polymerization of the water-soluble ethylenically unsaturated monomer in a petroleum hydrocarbon dispersion medium in the presence of a surfactant and/or a polymer protective colloid by using a radical polymerization initiator (2) carrying out a second-stage reversed phase suspension polymerization by adding a second-stage water-soluble ethylenically unsaturated monomer aqueous solution containing a radical polymerization initiator to the reaction mixture whose first-stage reversed phase suspension polymerization has been completed in the state that the surfactant and/or the polymer protective colloid is dissolved in the petroleum hydrocarbon dispersion medium and (3) cooling the reaction mixture subjected to second-stage reversed phase suspension polymerization, to deposit at least part of the surfactant and/or the polymer protective colloid, and carrying out a third-stage reversed phase suspension polymerization by adding a third-stage water-soluble ethylenically unsaturated monomer aqueous solution containing a radical polymerization initiator.
