PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minutely specify the cause of a failure in acquisition of face information of a drivers face.
SOLUTION: When in a step S2, it is judged that the acquisition of the face information has succeeded, a normal operation is performed in a step S3. When in the step S2, it is judged that the acquisition of the face information has been failed and in a step S4 it is judged that an on-vehicle component causes the failure, a coping-with operation 1 is performed in a step S5. When in a step S6, it is judged that the state of the face causes the failure, a coping-with operation 2 is performed in a step S7. When in a step S8, it is judged that irradiation light causes the failure, a coping-with operation 3 is performed in a step S9. When in a step S10, it is judged that a part of the face information has been acquired, a coping-with operation 4 is performed in a step S11. In other cases, a coping-with operation 5 is performed. This invention can be applied to a driver monitoring device, e.g.
