The present invention provides systems and methods for the targeted delivery of a therapeutic agent using expandable devices that are temporarily or permanently placed within the body. Such therapeutic agents may be delivered as a coating on the outer surface of the expandable device. Once positioned at a desired location within the body, the device is expanded such that its drug-coated outer surface establishes direct contact with a target tissue. The expanded device remains in contact with the target tissue for a pre-determined amount of time prior to being withdrawn from the body. Delivery of the therapeutic agent using the expandable device may be followed, or preceded, by delivery of a second expandable device to the same location within the body.Linvention concerne des systèmes et des procédés permettant dadministrer un agent thérapeutique de manière ciblée en utilisant des dispositifs extensibles qui sont placés dans lorganisme provisoirement ou en permanence. Ces agents thérapeutiques peuvent être administrés sous forme denrobage recouvrant la surface extérieure du dispositif extensible. Une fois situé dans lorganisme à lendroit souhaité, le dispositif est déployé de manière à ce que la surface externe recouverte de lenrobage soit en contact direct avec le tissu cible. Le dispositif extensible reste en contact avec le tissu cible pendant une durée prédéfinie avant dêtre retiré de lorganisme. Ladministration de lagent thérapeutique au moyen du dispositif extensible peut être suivie ou précédée de ladministration dun second dispositif extensible dans lorganisme au même endroit.
