PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tablet printing device and a tablet printing method capable of forming a printed image having a clear contour on the surface of a tablet.SOLUTION: This tablet printing device first irradiates at least one of an ultraviolet ray and an infrared ray toward the surface of a conveyed tablet 9. When the ultraviolet ray is irradiated, the surface of the tablet 9 is roughened, and the contact angle of ink is made small. Also, when the infrared ray is irradiated, the surface of the tablet 9 is etched into a concave shape. After that, ink I is discharged onto the surface of the tablet 9. This can improve the adhesion of the ink I to the tablet 9.
