The invention relates to the use of a compound of the formula (I), or the salts thereof, as a preservative, in particular in a cosmetic, dermatological, or pharmaceutical composition, where: R1 and R2 are H, methyl, ethyl, phenyl, or benzyl. The invention also relates to a method for preserving a cosmetic, dermatological, or pharmaceutical composition, said method involving the mixture of said formula (I) compound therein.
