An endoscope apparatus and connection unit therefor which can increase security of image data in a built-in memory of the endoscope apparatus are provided.An endoscope apparatus 1 includes a body portion 2 and a core unit 11. The body portion 2 is connected with an insertion portion 7 whose distal end portion 8 is equipped with a camera 31. The core unit 11 can be connected to the body portion 2 using a connector 12 for use to connect to a connector in the body portion 2. The core unit 11 includes a CPU core 61 and a flash memory 63 capable of recording or temporarily saving a program for processing image pickup data inputted from the camera 31 via the connector 12 and image data obtained as a result of processing by the program, and outputs display data via the connector 12 to display the image data on an LCD 4.
