An apparatus for cleansing wounds with means for applying flow stress to thewound bed； and in which irrigant fluid from a reservoir connected to aconformable wound dressing and wound exudate from the dressing are moved by adevice (which may be a single pump or two pumps) for moving fluid through aflow path which passes through the dressing and a means for providingsimultaneous aspiration and irrigation of the wound, and means for applyingflow stress to the wound bed. The former removes materials deleterious towound healing, while distributing materials that are beneficial in promotingwound healing over the wound bed. The latter promotes wound healing. Thedressing and a method of treatment using the apparatus.
