PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surgical buttress for use with a surgical stapling apparatus.SOLUTION: A surgical stapling apparatus comprises: an end effector 40 having a first jaw 50 and a second jaw 60, the first jaw having a distal end and a side face； a plurality of fasteners disposed in fastener slots of the first jaw, where fastener forming pockets are provided on the second jaw； and surgical buttresses 100, 200 having bands 120, 220 and a side skirt 130, the bands connected to the first jaw and encircling the distal end of the first jaw, the side skirt engaging the side face of the first jaw.
