Ear defenders on a protective helmet prevent sounds such as the noise of tools and machines, from reaching the wearer’s ear. However, they also render communicating with another person difficult. It is therefore useful to provide communication means when ear defenders are placed over the ears to deafen sounds. The invention may achieve this by providing an ear protection device (10) for ear defenders to be fastened on a protective helmet (12), wherein the ear protection device (10) comprises a housing (14) including a bearing device (16, 18) via which it is pivotably mounted in a forklike supporting bracket (48), characterised in that communication means (20, 22, 24, 26) are disposed in and/or on the housing (14), and in that the bearing device includes at least two electrically conductive contact elements (28, 30).
