The use of the tetrapeptides having the amino acid sequence LQGV, AQGV or LAGV for treating trauma-haemorrhage. The peptides are derived from the loop 2 of the beta-subunit of the human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). Also disclosed are methods for identifying a tetrapeptide suitable for the treatment of trauma haemorrhage by using an animal modelling of trauma haemorrhage and demonstrating a reduction in the plasma concentration of pro-inflammatory cytokine when administered with the test peptide.
