178,054. Inkpen, R. S. April 22, 1921. Hand shears. - Pruning-shears in which a pair of blades 10, 11, pivotally connected together at 12 are supported on a stem 14 so as to be operated by a rod, cord, wire, &c. extending beside the stem, have the blade 10 pivoted at 15 to the stem and the blade 11 carried by a link 16 pivoted to the steam at 17. In one arrangement the blade 11 is connected to the link 16 by an integral arm 19 and the link is formed with an extension 20 serving as an operating-lever and to which a chain &c. 21 is attached so that the shears can be operated from a distance; a spring 22 normally holds the blades in the open position. In modifications, the operating-lever pivoted to the stem carries a rod pivoted thereto and to the pivot connecting the blades or to either of the blades directly or to one of the blades and a link pivoted thereto and to the stem.
