Disclosed are novel stable compounds having anti-oxidant properties and methods of using the compounds for the treatment of diseases or injuries associated with oxidative stress. These compounds and pharmaceutically acceptable compositions are useful for preventing, treating or lessening the severity of a variety of diseases, injuries, or conditions, associated with reduced antioxidant levels and/or increased oxygen radical generation including, but not limited to, cardiovascular disease, liver disease, dementia, etc.
