PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication device and an authentication method which prevent a period in which the device cannot perform authentication and realize authentication using biological information.SOLUTION: An acquisition unit 2 acquires biological information given from a user. A storage unit 3 stores pieces of the biological information acquired by the acquisition unit 2. A first authentication unit 4 performs authentication by comparing biological information newly acquired by the acquisition unit 2 with the pieces of biological information stored in the storage unit 3. A second authentication unit 5 performs authentication different from the first authentication unit 4.
