Embodiments herein relate to live, attenuated alphaviruses that are incapable of replicating in mosquito cells and of transmission by mosquito vectors. Other embodiments concern methods of generating live, attenuated alphaviruses, constructs thereof and uses of these live, attenuated alphaviruses in immunogenic compositions. Other embodiments relate to pharmaceutical compositions including the live, attenuated alphaviruses and methods for manufacturing these live, attenuated viruses.
