1. A device for closing a wound, comprising: (a) a first opposing element and a second opposing element meshed about a longitudinal axis, each of which is rotatable around the axis between an open position and an open position with respect to each other and with the possibility of longitudinal movement along the axis from the first position to the second position, while each of the opposing elements has a proximal edge adjacent to the longitudinal axis, and a distal edge, the outer surface and the inner surface； (b) the first ratchet on the first element and the second ratchet on the second element, which are engaged with each other to hold the opposing elements in the closed position when the first and second elements are in the first position, and which are disengaged when the first and the second elements are in the second position； and (c) a plurality of needles located at the distal edges of the first and second elements. 2. A wound closure device according to claim 1, further comprising a clamping bar attached to the distal end of each of the opposing elements. 3. A wound closure device according to claim 2, further comprising a stabilizing bar attached to the outer surface of each opposing member. 4. The wound closure device according to claim 1, further comprising a grip attached to the outer surface of each opposing member, wherein the grip comprises a first grip surface parallel to the longitudinal axis and a grip surface substantially perpendicular to the first grip surface.
