599799 Disclosed is a method of determining a treatment setting in a respiratory treatment device. The method includes determining a measure of respiratory flow in an airway and, from the measure of respiratory flow, determining a shape index representing a degree of partial obstruction of the airway. A ventilation measure representing a degree of change in ventilation is also determined from the measure of respiratory flow in the airway. The method also includes calculating a treatment setting as a proportional function of both the degree of partial obstruction and the degree of change in ventilation.
