There is provided a system and method for controlling fluid delivery to a patient through a fluid delivery path from a manually administerable agent container. The systems and methods described herein may be adapted to provide an IV fluid that is connected to the input port on the flow path, for example, by taking into account such factors as the patient-specific clinical environment, current medical indications, and accepted delivery protocols. Based clinical decision support logic to drive the flow control valve in the flow path based on a determination of whether or not the flow control valve is suitable for patient administration.
