Embodiments of the present disclosure relate to methods and compositions relating to increasing or decreasing body weight (including, for example, by increasing or decreasing fat mass) in an individual in need thereof. In certain embodiments, such methods and compositions provide effective amounts of the hormone asprosin to increase fat mass in individuals with insufficient fat mass, and to obese or diabetic individuals. It relates to providing antibodies or inhibitors of asprosin, for example to reduce fat mass.
