The present invention relates to administration of sweet whey protein (SWP) for promoting the enteric neuronal development in infants, especially preterm, low birth, very low and extremely low birth weight infants as well as in young children up until the age of six. Administration of the SWP according to the invention prevents and treats disorders associated with an immature or impaired enteric nervous system. The disorders are, notably,dysfunctional gastrointestinal motility manifested as slow intestinal transit, intestinal discomfort, hard stools, constipation and/or gastrointestinal reflux, gut barrier dysfunction, food intolerance or necrotizing enterocolitis.La présente invention porte sur l'administration d'une protéine du lactosérum doux (SWP) permettant de favoriser le développement neuronal entérique chez les nourrissons, en particulier chez les nourrissons prématurés, de faible poids, de très faible poids et de poids extrêmement faible à la naissance ainsi que chez les jeunes enfants jusqu'à l'âge de six ans. L'administration de la SWP selon la présente invention prévient et traite les troubles associés à un système nerveux entérique altéré ou immature. Les troubles sont, notamment, une motilité dysfonctionnelle gastro-intestinale se manifestant par un transit intestinal lent, un malaise intestinal, des selles dures, une constipation et/ou des reflux gastro-intestinaux, un dysfonctionnement de la barrière intestinale, une intolérance alimentaire ou une entérocolite nécrosante.
