The invention relates to a capillary electrophoresis device, comprising a cartridge (5) for holding an electrophoresis capillary (24), a working electrode (8) and a ground electrode (9), wherein said cartridge (5) is arrangeable in a first configuration and a second configuration, wherein said working electrode (8) is conductively connected or connectable to a first end (7) of said electrophoresis capillary (24) and said ground electrode (9) is conductively connected or connectable to a second end (7) of said electrophoresis capillary (24) in said first configuration, and wherein said working electrode (8) is conductively connected or connectable to said second end (7) of said electrophoresis capillary (24), and said ground electrode (9) is conductively connected or connectable to said first end (7) of said electrophoresis capillary (24) in said second configuration. The invention further relates to a capillary electrophoresis method using said capillary electrophoresis device.
