Novel drug carriers capable of targeted and/or pH dependent release of biologically active agents into selected pH environments including the gastrointestinal (GI), ophthalmic, urinary, or reproductive tracts. Unexpectedly, carriers including free fatty acids (FFA) are able to deliver biologically active agents to various pH environments. Such targeted delivery is tailorable and useful for active agents that are: (a) injurious to the upper GI tract (esophagus, stomach, and duodenum), (b) acid labile, (c) impermeable/insoluble compounds in GI fluids, (d) susceptible to first pass metabolism, and/or (e) cause stomach irritation, upset, or dyspepsia.Novedosos portadores de fármacos capaces de liberar de manera dirigida o dependiente del pH agentes biológicamente activos en entornos de pH seleccionado incluyendo los tractos gastrointestinal (GI), oftálmico, urinario, o reproductivo； inesperadamente, los portadores que incluyen ácidos grasos libres (FFA) son capaces de suministrar agentes biológicamente activos a varios entornos de pH； tal suministro dirigido puede ser diseñado a la medida y útil para los agentes activos que son: (a) perjudiciales para el tracto GI superior (esófago, estómago y duodeno), (b) ácido lábil, (c) compuestos impermeables/insolubles en fluidos GI, (d) susceptibles de metabolismo de primer paso, y/o (e) causar irritación, malestar, o dispepsia en el estómago.
