The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating muscular atrophy, containing beta-glucan as an active ingredient. To this end, the pharmaceutical composition shows comparable or superior effects as compared with conventional therapeutic agents for steroid-based muscular atrophy, ensures easy production by using components derived from nature using Aureobasidium pullulans, and also reduces production costs. In addition, the pharmaceutical composition can be easily taken by oral administration rather than injection.
