An inspection apparatus for detecting whether dust is present in an empty container is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a radiation source 1 for generating excitation radiation which is directed towards the inner wall of the container and excites the dust which the dust particles will perceive to emit radiation radiation. The apparatus further comprises at least one device (5) for sensing luminescence radiation emitted by the dust and a device for analyzing the sensed luminescence radiation.
