PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pump unit for water jet surgical operation.SOLUTION: A pump unit 10 includes at least two piston type pumps including pump cylinders 12, 13 and pump pistons 15, 16. Each piston type pump includes an inlet valve and an outlet valve. At least the inlet valve, and optionally the outlet valve, are embodied as a ball type non-return valve having no spring. In this case, a valve ball is in the interior, at least one side of which is defined by a housing, preferably the surface of a first housing part 11. According to this design, an actual nonreturn valve is joined and completely manufactured only by putting together the housing parts 11, 17.
