PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chlorine dioxide generating agent which can increase an amount of chlorine dioxide gas generated per unit mass of a chlorite and also can continuously generate chlorine dioxide gas stably for a long period of time.SOLUTION: The chlorine dioxide generating agent according to the present invention has a composition that includes a chlorite and a metal carbonate. Preferably, sodium chlorite is used as the chlorite and calcium carbonate is used as the metal carbonate.
