The invention provides a method for the repair and/or prevention of split ends in hair comprising the following sequential steps: (i) wetting the hair, and (ii) treating the wetted hair by topical application of a hair treatment composition, the hair treatment composition comprising a solution or dispersion in which one or more N- acyl amino acid amides are dissolved or dispersed in an oily carrier. Advantageously the solutions or dispersions can be applied by a consumer without intervention of a professional hairdresser.
