The invention relates to forestry and may be used in forest inventory, for measuring the diameter of timber, and for taking core samples of wood.The apparatus includes a housing with a linear scale. The housing is made as a hollow cylinder. At one end of the body set fixed leg and the other is made conical cutting head with a screw thread. A movable body installed on the leg having the ability to move along the housing. The movable leg on the hub has projections in size and shape corresponding depressions formed on the end face of the stationary hub legs.Such design allows to use the device as a caliper for measuring the diameter of the tree, and turning the movable leg 180 degrees in the vertical and horizontal planes to use the device as an auger for taking core samples of wood.
