A latch mechanism (130) is disclosed that retains a grass catcher (112) on a reel mower cutting unit (100). The latch mechanism (130) includes a latch plate (128) releasably holding a rod end (135) of the grass catcher (112) in a slot (125) on the reel mower cutting unit (100). The latch plate (128) pivots on a horizontal axis. A clip (140) is fastened to the horizontal axis to lock the latch plate (128) in either a locked position retaining the grass catcher (112) or an unlocked position allowing removal of the grass catcher (112).
