PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for detecting upper eyelid shape are provided to extract an upper eyelid parameter with high degree of freedom by using repetitive estimation of a polynomial curve. CONSTITUTION: One or more contour lines are detected from an inputted eye image(701). At least one or more candidate contour lines of the upper eyelid contour line are selected(702). One or more standard points are selected from the candidate contour line(703). The specific candidate contour lines are grouped based on the selected one or more standard points(704). A candidate contour line is selected in case of the distance of pupil or the center of a screen within the predetermined distance(705).
