The present invention relates to nucleic acid molecules encoding expressionproducts involved in the Responder function, which contributes to thephenomenon of transmission ratio distortion. The present invention alsorelates to regulatory regions of the genes corresponding to said nucleic acidmolecules. The present invention further relates to recombinant DNA moleculesand vectors comprising said nucleic acid molecules and/or regulatory regionsas well as to host cells transformed therewith. Additionally, the presentinvention relates to transgenic animals, comprising said nucleic acidmolecules, recombinant DNA molecules or vectors stably integrated into theirgenome. The various embodiments of the invention have a significant impact onbreeding strategies by allowing for the specific selection of genetic traitsand in particular of sex. Further, the present invention finds applications inthe development of contraceptiva.
