A dressing for treating damaged tissue, incorporates a pair of electrodes anda conductive gel between the electrodes. An electric current passes betweenthe electrodes through the gel to repair the damaged tissue. Sensors can beincorporated into the dressing along with a control unit. The control unit canvary current supplied to the electrodes according to environmental parametersdetected by the sensors. Alternatively, one or more pre-defined programmes canbe stored in the control unit for supplying an alternating current to theelectrodes with a varying amplitude, frequency and waveform.
