Methods for controlling, maintaining, or reducing blood pressure, and/or for treating, preventing, or alleviating symptoms such as dyspnea, in a patient suffering from or susceptible to acute heart failure. The methods involve the administration of an effective amount of a pharmaceutical composition comprising a short acting dihydropyridine compound such as clevidipine. The pharmaceutical composition may be administered at an initial dose, and if blood pressure is not controlled or maintained within a target blood pressure range or reduced to within a target blood pressure range, the initial dose may be titrated to achieve a blood pressure within the target blood pressure range. The patient may have a systolic blood pressure of about 120 mmHg or above.본 발명은, 급성 심부전으로 고통받거나 또는 급성 심부전에 민감한 환자에 있어서, 혈압을 제어하고, 유지하며 또는 감소시키는 방법 및/또는 호흡 곤란과 같은 증상을 치료하고, 방지하며 또는 경감시키는 방법이다. 본 방법은 클레비디핀과 같은 짧은 작용 디히드로피리딘(dihydropyridine) 화합물을 함유하는 제약 조성물의 효과적인 양의 투약을 포함한다. 제약 조성물은 개시 투약으로 투여될 수 있고, 혈압이 타깃 혈압 범위 내에서 제어되지 않거나 유지되지 않거나 또는 타깃 혈압 범위 이내로 감소되지 않으면, 상기 개시 투약은 상기 타깃 혈압 범위 내의 혈압을 달성하기 위해 적정될 수 있다. 환자는 약 120 mmHg 또는 이상의 수축 혈압을 가질 수 있다.
