A surface comprises components suitable for consumption by poultry adhered to the surface by an edible adhesive. The poultry may be domestic chickens. The components may be adhered on or within the surface. The edible adhesive may comprise wheat flour, potato starch, gelatine, Xanthan gum and/ or water. The components for consumption by poultry may be grains, seeds, pulses, insects, legumes, grasses, grit, sand, and/or a non-starch polysaccharide source. A tray comprising the surface, a kit and method for preparing the surface, and the use of the surface for feeding an animal are also described. The use of the surface may require the animal to peck or scratch at the surface thus mimicking its natural behaviour.
