Provided herein is approach that specifically modulates the activity and/or the number of intratumoral regulatory T (Treg) cells in a subject. Such an approach can be used to reduce the number of intratumoral T regulatory cells in a subject as well as to inhibit tumor growth in a subject having a cancer without eliciting autoimmune responses.
