An electronic smoking device 10 comprising a power supply 18, a liquid reservoir 34 storing a liquid therein and having a an opening 35, and an atomiser 26 adapted to atomize the liquid in the liquid reservoir 34 when operated by the power supply, characterised in that at least two plates 40, 50, are provided with adjustable spacing there between, wherein a flow passage 60 is formed between the at least two plates extending from the liquid reservoir to the atomizer. The plates may extend in parallel from the liquid reservoir to the atomizer, and/or are configured to block the liquid reservoir opening when no spacing between the at least two plates exists. The plates may be biased towards each other by a resilient element. The electronic smoking device may further comprise an electromagnet 70 electrically connected to the power supply and coupled to a first plate of the at least two plates and a magnet 72 coupled to or being formed by a second plate of the at least two plates. The resilient element may also comprise a bimetallic or thermally expansive element. The thermally expansive element may extend perpendicular to the liquid flow passage.
