摘要:
The patent (Application No: 201611006732) is related with synthesis of starch based electrolytes, by complexing the starch (from any of botanical origin) with any alkali (sodium, magnesium and sodium) salt and crosslinking it with aldehyde, for electrochemical applications. The claimed electrolytes have been tested for fabrication of microbial fuel cells. The merits of its applicability for MFC fabrication have been established by comparing the characteristic parameters of MFC fabricated using claimed electrolytes with MFC fabricated using pretreated nafion (which is a well established electrolyte for MFC fabrication). Performance of MFC having claimed electrolytes is comparable to MFC having Nafion as electrolyte with respect to all studied parameters namely i) open circuit voltage, ii) short circuit current, iii) anode potential, iv) cell design point v) %COD removal and vi) production of volatile fatty acids. The claimed electrolytes have been prepared with low cost constituents and simple techniques hence the effective cost of prepared electrolyte is very low (20INR for per cm film of thickness 1mm) in comparison to the Nafion. The claimed electrolytes need no pretreatment whereas the Nafion based electrolytes requires pretreatment and hence adding up to effective cost of Nafion electrolyte and hence the cost of device. The main constituent of claimed electrolyte is starch (from botanical origin) which is abundant in nature and eco-friendly having no harmful effect. The claimed electrolyte is flexible in nature which is an important factor for device designing. Hence the claimed electrolyte is a flexible, economical, easy to prepare and eco-friendly electrolyte which can be used for fabrication of electrochemical device.
