The probe (1), comprising at least one supple and incompressible tube (2) designed to be inserted into a patient's trachea through the nose or mouth, has the tube(s) surrounded by by at least one supple and inflatable protective sleeve (6) to isolate it from the mucous membranes of the patient's airways. The sleeve, made e.g. from plastic film a few tens of microns thick, is inflated by a breathable gas which is able to pass through a hole (8) in the inner tube and into the patient's trachea.
