A method of selecting a patient for treatment of disease-related reduced cognitive function, caused by reduced neuronal metabolism associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD), comprising: a. select a patient who has reduced disease-related cognitive function caused by reduced neuronal metabolism associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD)； b. determine in the patient the presence of at least one of the specific genotypes selected from the group consisting of: i. homozygosity for thymine of Interleukin-1 beta rs1143627 (IL1B) in a relevant position shown by SEQ ID * NO: 9； and ii. homozygosity for cytosine of IL1B rs16944 in a relevant position shown by SEQ ID NO: 10； and c. selecting for treatment a patient having at least one of the specific genotypes in (b), wherein the treatment comprises administering to the patient at least one medium chain triglyceride (TCM) in an amount effective for the treatment or prevention of the reduction of disease-related cognitive function by reduction of neuronal metabolism associated with Alzheimer's disease.Un método para seleccionar un paciente para tratamiento de función cognitiva reducida relacionada con enfermedad, causada por reducción del metabolismo neuronal asociada a la enfermedad de Alzheimer (EA), que comprende: a. seleccionar un paciente que tenga reducción de la función cognitiva relacionada con enfermedad, causada por reducción del metabolismo neuronal asociada a la enfermedad de Alzheimer (EA)； b. determinar en el paciente la presencia de al menos uno de los genotipos específicos seleccionados entre el grupo que consiste en: i. homocigosis para timina de rs1143627 de Interleuquina-1 beta (IL1B) en una posición relevante mostrada por la SEQ ID *NO: 9； y ii. homocigosis para citosina de rs16944 de IL1B en una posición relevante mostrada por la SEC ID Nº: 10； y c. seleccionar para tratamiento un paciente que tenga al menos uno de los genotipos específicos en (b), en donde el tratamiento comprende la administración al pacient
