PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly safe pest controlling agent that exerts a high pest controlling effect (insecticidal or repelling effect) without compounding any insecticidal component used in known insecticides etc., and a method for controlling pests using the pest controlling agent.SOLUTION: The pest controlling agent comprises, as an active ingredient for controlling pests, at least one compound selected from the group consisting of sorbic acid, dehydroacetic acid and salts thereof.
