A method of making an absorbent web includes moving a porous member in a machine direction. The porous member has at least one closure plate having a divided region including at least one partition defining a plurality of segments. The method further comprises sucking air through the porous member and depositing fibrous material onto the porous member to form the absorbent web. The absorbent web has a bridge area with a reduced basis weight corresponding to the parting area of the closure plate.
