PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for inhibiting cadmium absorption by wet rice at a low cost, without causing yield reduction of rice.SOLUTION: The method of the invention for inhibiting cadmium absorption by wet rice is to apply a calcareous material containing calcium carbonate to the plowed paddy soil, where the application of the calcareous material into the paddy field by plowing is carried out three or more months earlier than the rice planting. In this method of invention, it is preferable to apply the calcareous material into the paddy field after the harvest of the rice crop but before autumn plowing.
