The invention relates to a method of hypnosis and of controlling a state of sedation by hypnosis of a patient using a virtual reality system to initiate and keep the patient under hypnosis, comprising the steps: a) continuously measuring and real time at least one physiological parameter of the patient, b) use at least one calculation and analysis algorithm to determine from the values measured under a), a hypnosedation score corresponding to a state of hypnosedation, c) use a library of hypnosedation software, each of said hypnosedation software corresponding to a virtual reality scenario, d) select in real time from the library a scenario or a succession of virtual reality scenarios, according to the value of the score d 'hypnosis, e) broadcast the selection made under d) in a helmet of the virtual reality system worn by the patient.
